The Walther P38 (originally written Walther P.38) is a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol that was developed by Carl Walther GmbH as the service pistol of the Wehrmacht at the beginning of World War II. It was intended to replace the costly Luger P08 , the production of which was scheduled to end in 1942.

Jan 06, 2013 · It is a post war gun, the P.38's manufactured before and during WWII have 4 to 5 digit numbers with the date (year) usually part of the code on the slide. They would be something like ac 40, ac 42, or byf, byf 44, svw or cyq which tell the plant they were made in and the year. Walther developed the P.38 in 1937.
This is an original WWII German Walther built P-38. Dated 1942 by the code "ac42" it has all matching numbers on frame, slide and barrel. All 359 code Waffenampts are good. Bluing is very good to excellent. An Eagle 359 code WWII issue and is in excellent condition. No import marks.
